WILSON STRICKLAND
Winston Strickland exemplifies some of the most awesome talent that comes out of Birmingham, Alabama. Before being Artistic Director for the famed M.A.D. Skillz Dance Company Est.2003, Winston traveled the nation dancing for major artist, and worked in his own city giving the world the class and style for which he is acclaimed.
When it comes to dance and fine arts he is Diversity. Winston is an accomplished actor gracing the stage in local theatre productions and nationally in Annie, God’s Trombone, and the Wiz. Winston has appeared in the BET J reality show Tears, Shears and Beauty and Chris Rock’s movie Good Hair. As a professional dancer Winston has traveled the nation with the likes of UMDABU SOUTH AFRICAN DANCE CO., and back-up dancer for platinum recording artists such as Outkast, Mary J. Blidge, and Keith Sweat; just to name a few and has appeared in countless music videos. As a Producer, Winston has produced television show 95.7 Street Jamz, winning productions for M.A.D. Skillz Dance Co. since 2003 and winning production for Bronner Bros. Hair Battle August 2009. He was also been recognized by the national library of congress and honored in Who’s Who in Black Birmingham and published in Birmingham magazine. As instructor he has led workshops for Dance Across Birmingham, and the Birmingham Museum of Arts exemplary Creek Nation exhibit teaching drumming and Alabama’s rich American Indian history.
M.A.D. (Music and Dance) Skillz Dance Co. is an Alabama state wide organization of elite teens who aspire to reach the world with their original style of dance. M.A.D. Skillz Dance Co., has performed and brought positive, high quality entertainment for all ages through theatrical dance moves in the form of hip-hop, jazz, ballet, praise, African, and modern dance. M.A.D. Skillz Dance Co. has performed over 40 shows per year including: New York’s Showtime at the Apollo; MTV’s dance reality show pilot; Chris Rock’s movie “GOOD HAIR”; BET’s TV show Tears, Shears & Beauty; BET’s 106 & Park 7 times; UAB Step Shows; ESPN; SWAC; Alys Stephens Center; Bronner Brothers Hair Show 2010 Champions; music videos, concerts, and countless city and community service events. While inspiring youth to be creative and explore the fine arts of music and dance, each member of the organization maintains a GPA of 2.5 and above. MAD SKILLZ, has proven to be the next generation of dance.
